Try it in your browser

Play a virtual FM-1 with any of its community firmwares: M-VAVE FM-1.

Sounds of other devices

This device loads, as they are, the shared sounds of the Yamaha DX7 (484): open one and load it from the browser.

How do you control it?

Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:

osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-16.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>

Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:

osc-bridge osc-send /fm1/mod_wheel 63

From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

Performance MIDI

Notes, pitch bend and any CC are also available: /fm1/note/on <note> <velocity>, /fm1/cc/<number> <value>, /fm1/pitchbend <0-16383>, /fm1/program_change <n>.

Limitations

Stock firmware V16 (8 parts sharing 20 voices, each part with its own receive channel — defaults not documented). (V16 moved the effects to CC70-93; the order inside each group of 4 is assumed to be V15's — on/off, then the 3 parameters — which M-VAVE has not confirmed.) CC0-23 no longer work. Notes 0-26 on the FX channel light the 27 key LEDs without sounding. V16 can send a bank back as DX7 SysEx (Bank Export, started on the unit). The FM-1 transmits notes only (no CC, no program change, no clock out). The vendor documents no NRPN. Sounds are DX7 voices: a 32-voice bank (`F0 43 0n 09 20 00 …`, 4104 bytes) or a single voice (`F0 43 0n 00 01 1B …`, 163 bytes) is received on any channel; these are presets, handled by the librarian, not driver commands.

Frequently asked questions

Which MIDI CC controls the filter cutoff on the M-VAVE FM-1?

CC 70 (0–1), named /fm1/fx/filter/on in SynthHub's map.

How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?

SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 30 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.

Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?

Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
