How do you control it?¶
Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:
osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-fart-1.1.0.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>
Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:
From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_fart: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.
MIDI CC and NRPN parameters (2)¶

Limitations¶
Fart Machine One 1.1.0 by adamcharleswilsonmusic-code (GPL-3.0), a sampler firmware for the FM-1. USB product name not renamed: 'FoMni FM-1'.; Identity: main.c/build.py FM-1_703; release FM-1_7XXYYZZ (build.py:354) despite the '8XXYYZZ' comment; 1.1.0 -> FM-1_7010100, same as FuMi-1 1.1.0. Channels: Fixed ch1: notes 53-79 (F3-G5) trigger the matching key's sample with velocity; note-off ignored (one-shots) (ui.c:66-71). TRS jack is MIDI IN only (channel messages and F8/FA/FB/FC; SysEx ignored), merged with USB into one queue (midi_uart.c:3-7). Pitch bend: ignored. Aftertouch: ignored. Clock: No clock sync (README.md:147); realtime messages ignored; no clock out. MIDI out: none (om_midi_out defined but never called). NRPN: none. SysEx `F0 (pack7: 00 59 cmd len24 body chk) F7`: M-VAVE update protocol: identify (cmd 0x11, the F0 00 32 45 00 00 00 40 7F F7 query) answers the 27-byte package identity (FELUCCA_ID); read requests 0x30 during an install. SysEx `F0 22 24 35 7F F7`: start an update session (M-UPGRADE pull). SysEx `F0 22 24 35 7D F7`: soft key: reboot into UBOOT / mask-ROM loader (never send). SysEx `F0 7D 46 4C`: absent: no Felucca editor protocol (no editor.c), so no INFO reply. SysEx `F0 43`: absent: no raw DX7 voice/bank parser. SysEx `F0 7E 7F 06 01`: absent: no Universal Identity reply. Identity: Vendor identify: 'FM-1_703' (main.c default) / release build 'FM-1_7010100 for 1.1.0' (tools/build.py --release). No editor INFO, no Universal Identity. USB product 'FoMni FM-1'. Update loader shows as 'ota-FM-1_015'.
Frequently asked questions¶
How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?
SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 2 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.
Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?
Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
