How do you control it?¶
Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:
osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-shineon-3.0.1.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>
Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:
From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_shineon: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

Limitations¶
Shine On 3.0.1 by zvenson (GPL-3.0), a instrument firmware for the FM-1. OberVave's MIDI scheme (fixed 74/73/72/5/1/7/64/120/123, rest auto from CC20) applied to Shine On's own 42-parameter table, so CC20+ targets differ from OberVave; no CC71 (no resonance parameter). Channels: MIDI CH 0 = OMNI: every channel plays the selected track; CH N: N = track A, N+1.N+3 = tracks B-D (notes, PC, CCs; delay/reverb CCs only on A). USB and TRS MIDI IN. Pitch bend: 14-bit pitch bend (channel A path); range = patch BEND param 0-24 st (auto CC35); no RPN. Aftertouch: none. Clock: in (USB/TRS): tempo from 96 clocks, FA/FB restart arp+sequencer and run, FC stops; SYNC INTERNAL ignores all; no clock out. MIDI out: USB: panel keys as notes on the selected track's channel (OMNI: ch1). NRPN: none. SysEx `F0 pack7(00 59 cmd len24 body chk) F7`: M-UPGRADE vendor update protocol (installers, hub): cmd 0x11 handshake answers the package identity; F0 22 24 35 7F F7 starts the pulled update. SysEx `F0 22 24 35 7D F7`: soft key: reboot into the bootloader. SysEx `F0 7D 46 4C`: absent: no Felucca editor protocol, no INFO reply. SysEx `F0 43`: absent: no raw DX7 SysEx parser. Identity: vendor identify FM-1_96XY for release X.Y (3.0.1 -> FM-1_9630, third digit dropped; dev FM-1_9600; tools/build.py:61,328), rescue FM-1_000; SMK-37 build 'SMK-37 Pro_96XY'; no editor INFO; USB product "Felucca" (usb.c:276).
Frequently asked questions¶
How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?
SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 45 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.
Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?
Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
