Try it in your browser

Play a virtual FM-1 with any of its community firmwares: M-VAVE FM-1.

How do you control it?

Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:

osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-rainbow-1.1.5-rb.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>

Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:

osc-bridge osc-send /fm1_rainbow/mod_wheel 63

From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_rainbow: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

Limitations

Rainbow Mode 1.1.5-rb by joshbartlettband-web (GPL-3.0), a toy firmware for the FM-1. Map identical to Felucca 1.1.5, not 1.6.1: same 11-CC table and engine targets (incl. SLICE TONE), but no MIDI learn, no Program Change, MIDI IN only CH1-4 / SEL; Kid (toy) UI on top; MIDI works as in Felucca (kid.c:40); SMK-37 builds (BOARD_SMK37): its wheels send pitch bend + CC1 on MIDI out (seq.c:1074-1107), identity 'SMK-37 Pro_900'; Editor adds cmd 50 NAME; no learn/palette cmds. Channels: CH1-4 (default): channels 1-4 -> tracks 1-4, 5-16 ignored; SEL: every channel plays selected track (seq.c:996). Pitch bend: 14-bit; RPN0 range 0-24 st + 0-99 cents, default 2; drum tracks ignore. Aftertouch: channel aftertouch = mod-matrix source; poly AT ignored. Clock: source INT/USB/TRS (MENU CLOCK); F8 steps, FA/FB/FC honoured; no SPP; no clock out. MIDI out: USB only: panel keys as notes on track channel (1-4); FM-1 build no CC1 out; SMK-37 build adds bend + CC1 from wheels; no clock. NRPN: none (CC98/99 only cancel RPN). SysEx `F0 7D 46 4C`: Felucca editor protocol (1.1.5 set): 1-38, 50 NAME, 64-67, FM6 68-71, menu 72-73; no FM6 bank 74-77, no learn 78-79. SysEx `F0 00 32 45`: M-VAVE update protocol kept (identify F0 00 32 45 00 00 00 40 7F F7 -> 27-byte product string). SysEx `F0 43`: absent: no raw DX7 parser (only editor FM6 commands). SysEx `F0 22 24 35 7D F7`: reboots to mask-ROM (never send). Identity: vendor identify 'FM-1_900' ('FM-1_9XY' if --release; SMK-37 'SMK-37 Pro_900') (felucca.c:40-44); editor INFO 'FELUCCA v1.1.5' (editor.c:479), not '-rb'; USB product 'Felucca'; no Universal Identity.

Frequently asked questions

Which MIDI CC controls the filter cutoff on the M-VAVE FM-1?

CC 74 (0–127), named /fm1_rainbow/engine_brightness_cutoff in SynthHub's map.

How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?

SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 21 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.

Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?

Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
