Try it in your browser
Play a virtual FM-1 with any of its community firmwares: M-VAVE FM-1.
Sounds of other devices¶
This device loads, as they are, the shared sounds of the Yamaha DX7 (484): open one and load it from the browser.
How do you control it?¶
Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:
osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-tessera-2.0.1.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>
Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:
From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_tessera: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

Limitations¶
Tessera 2.0.1 by Theo Dainis (Rastapopolix) (GPL-3.0), a generative firmware for the FM-1. vs Melodee: Prophet and CZ engines removed, so CC72/73/75 native envelopes apply to FM6 only and CC74 CZ filter is gone; Engines: SID, TRIO, DRUM, FM6 (MACRO off by default): CC74/71 per-engine targets differ from Felucca; No CC91/93/94 (no effect sends), no Program Change, no MIDI learn; MIDI out per-track channels (KEYS/ALL/OFF) and clock out; Source version v1.3.6 vs firmwares.json 2.0.1 (release builds set vX.Y.Z). Channels: ROUT CH1-4 (default) / SEL / CH5-8 / CH9-12 / CH13-16: the block's 4 channels -> tracks 1-4, others ignored; SEL: all -> selected track. DRUM channel (default 10) goes to the first drum track. USB and TRS. Pitch bend: 14-bit, RPN 0 range 0-24 st + cents, default 2 st. Aftertouch: channel aftertouch = AT mod source. Clock: clock in INT/USB/TRS (F8/FA/FB/FC, reworked follower); CLOCK OUT setting: 24 ppqn + FA/FC over USB while CLK = INT. MIDI out: USB: MIDI OUT KEYS (default) / ALL (steps, arp, generators) / OFF; per-track channel (GLO > MIDI OUT 1-16/OFF or AUTO = ROUT block, drum track on DRUM channel); clock out optional. NRPN: none. SysEx `F0 7D 46 4C`: Melodee/Felucca editor protocol (INFO, GET/SET, presets, user presets, backup 64-67, FM6 68-71, 72 audio stats, 73 pattern, 74 bank song). SysEx `F0 43`: raw DX7 on device: VCED voice -> FM6 track, VMEM 32 voices -> F001-F032 or F033-F064, parameter / function changes, dump requests 2n 00 / 2n 09. SysEx `F0 44 / F0 01`: no CZ or Prophet SysEx (engines removed). SysEx `F0 00 32 45`: vendor update protocol (ota.c), identity MELODEE_ID. Identity: vendor identify FM-1_8377XYYZ -> FM-1_83772001 for 2.0.1 (dev FM-1_83770000); INFO "TESSERA v2.0.1" (source default v1.3.6); USB name "Tessera" (loader "Melodee Update"), audio "Tessera In"/"Tessera Out".
Frequently asked questions¶
Which MIDI CC controls the filter cutoff on the M-VAVE FM-1?
CC 74 (0–127), named /fm1_tessera/engine_brightness in SynthHub's map.
How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?
SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 22 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.
Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?
Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
