Try it in your browser

Play a virtual FM-1 with any of its community firmwares: M-VAVE FM-1.

How do you control it?

Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:

osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-quest-38.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>

Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:

osc-bridge osc-send /fm1_quest/system/info

From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_quest: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

SysEx commands (2)

OSC address Arguments
/fm1_quest/system/info
/fm1_quest/system/identify

Performance MIDI

Notes, pitch bend and any CC are also available: /fm1_quest/note/on <note> <velocity>, /fm1_quest/cc/<number> <value>, /fm1_quest/pitchbend <0-16383>, /fm1_quest/program_change <n>.

Limitations

FM1 Quest 38 by hericdk (GPL-3.0), a groovebox firmware for the FM-1. a full SLOOP 2.3 groovebox shown as a pixel-art RPG, with mini-games (Piano Hero, FM Hero); it is musical, not a stand-alone game; SLOOP 2.3 MIDI: only notes and clock; CCs, Program Change and bend are dropped (seq.c:1677); the editor protocol's v7 is the fork's own: song commands 37-41 SNG_BEGIN/WRITE/END/ERASE/INFO for the games. These clash with SLOOP 2.4's v7 LOCK/MICRO commands 37-40; version: firmwares.json says 38 (hub package), but repo HEAD ui.c says "0.21" (README says v0.2); tags quest-12.17 exist. Channels: drum channel (default 10, 0-16) -> drum track; ch1-3 -> synth tracks 1-3; ch4-16 -> the selected track. Pitch bend: ignored. Aftertouch: ignored. Clock: in from USB or TRS (SYNC): F8/FA/FB/FC; no clock out. MIDI out: USB: panel keys as notes on the track channel. NRPN: none. SysEx `F0 7D 46 4C`: SLOOP 2.3 editor protocol (1-36) plus the fork's songs 37-41; INFO protocol byte 7. SysEx `F0 00 32 45`: M-VAVE vendor update protocol / identify. SysEx `F0 22 24 35`: 7D = mask-ROM reboot, 7F = OTA request. SysEx `F0 43`: not accepted (no DX7 engine). Identity: vendor identify FM-1_900 by default (build.py:50; hub package not checked); editor INFO "FELUCCA 0.21"; USB product "Felucca". It reads no CC.

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?

Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
