How do you control it?¶
Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:
osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-min1-0.2.1.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>
Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:
From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_min1: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.
MIDI CC and NRPN parameters (2)¶

Performance MIDI¶
Notes, pitch bend and any CC are also available: /fm1_min1/note/on <note> <velocity>, /fm1_min1/cc/<number> <value>, /fm1_min1/pitchbend <0-16383>, /fm1_min1/program_change <n>.
Limitations¶
MIN-1 0.2.1 by Reytian (GPL-3.0), a generative firmware for the FM-1. Identity mismatch: main.c FM-1_700 but tools/build.py FM-1_500 / release FM-1_5XXYYZZ (MONK-1's namespace). Channels: Omni: held notes on any channel act as held NOTES keys (chord input) (ui.c:748-766). TRS jack is MIDI IN only (channel messages and F8/FA/FB/FC; SysEx ignored), merged with USB into one queue (midi_uart.c:3-7). Pitch bend: ignored. Aftertouch: ignored. Clock: In: F8/FA/FB/FC drive the grid (24 PPQN) (ui.c:754-755). Out: F8, FA, FC when on its own tempo (dsp/min.c:2451, 2478, 2604). No SPP. MIDI out: USB, 'MIDI out' default On: parts on ch1 Upper, ch2 Lower, ch3 Bass, ch4 Lead, ch5 Chords, plus clock (dsp/min.c:649-653, 786, 942; docs/DESIGN.md:116). NRPN: none. SysEx `F0 (pack7: 00 59 cmd len24 body chk) F7`: M-VAVE update protocol: identify (cmd 0x11, the F0 00 32 45 00 00 00 40 7F F7 query) answers the 27-byte package identity (FELUCCA_ID); read requests 0x30 during an install. SysEx `F0 22 24 35 7F F7`: start an update session (M-UPGRADE pull). SysEx `F0 22 24 35 7D F7`: soft key: reboot into UBOOT / mask-ROM loader (never send). SysEx `F0 7D 46 4C`: absent: no Felucca editor protocol (no editor.c), so no INFO reply. SysEx `F0 43`: absent: no raw DX7 voice/bank parser. SysEx `F0 7E 7F 06 01`: absent: no Universal Identity reply. Identity: Vendor identify: 'FM-1_700 (main.c) / FM-1_500 (build.py default)' (main.c default) / release build 'FM-1_5000201 for 0.2.1' (tools/build.py --release). No editor INFO, no Universal Identity. USB product 'MIN-1 FM-1'. Update loader shows as 'ota-FM-1_015'.
Frequently asked questions¶
How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?
SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 2 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.
Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?
Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
