Try it in your browser

Play a virtual FM-1 with any of its community firmwares: M-VAVE FM-1.

How do you control it?

Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:

osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-ctl-1.0.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>

Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:

osc-bridge osc-send /fm1_ctl/modulation 63

From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_ctl: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

Limitations

CTL-1 1.0 by charlesvestal (MPL-2.0), a controller firmware for the FM-1. Licence MPL-2.0, not GPL-3.0. Channels: Out: keyboard channel set by ALGORITHM (default ch1); Euclidean drum sequencer on Seq ch (default ch10). In: all channels thru to the onboard GM synth (all 16 parts, drums ch10) unless Sound page MIDI in = Ignored. Pitch bend: Not sent. In: onboard EAS 14-bit bend, default +-2 st, RPN0 sets range (RPN1/2 tuning). Aftertouch: Out: poly aftertouch per note (default) or channel pressure from the key sensors (Touch page). In: EAS uses channel pressure as modulation; poly pressure ignored. Clock: Int (default): sends F8 24 ppqn over USB (BLE while running) and FA/FC on PLAY; Int quiet: FA/FC only; Ext: follows F8/FA/FB/FC from USB/TRS/BLE. Tempo 40-240. No SPP. MIDI out: USB + Bluetooth MIDI (BLE peripheral 'FM-1' and central to BLE devices): keys (fixed or sensed velocity, scale/chord mapping), CCs, PC, aftertouch, arp, Euclidean drums, clock. Thru: USB->BLE, BLE->USB, TRS->USB+BLE; channel + realtime messages, no SysEx. Onboard Sonivox EAS GM synth (128 GM + drum kit ch10, 24 voices) plays what it sends and what comes in. NRPN: none sent; onboard EAS ignores NRPN. CCs without a fixed number: MASTER knob CC (out: optional, Sound page sets a CC number (0 = MASTER is the onboard volume)); incoming CC on keyboard channel (in: a CC matching a bank knob's number updates that knob's stored value (follow)). SysEx `F0 00 32 45 00 00 00 40 7F F7`: M-VAVE vendor update protocol kept (felucca-bsp ota.c): identify reply = 27-byte product string (fm1.toml id_prefix + 00 dev / + XXYYZZ release); update, backup and screen mirror commands in the 00 59 framing. SysEx `F0 7D 53 52`: fm1-reader screen-reader protocol (SR): HELLO, page/knob announcements as text. SysEx `F0 7D 4C 47 F7`: development log readout (LG): crash record, rails, as ASCII frames. SysEx `F0 7D 4C 43`: remote panel control (LC): buttons, keys, encoders, master; ack F0 7D 4C 43 op F7. SysEx `F0 43`: absent: no DX7 bulk parser; other SysEx dropped. SysEx `F0 7E 7F 06 01`: absent: no Universal Identity reply. Identity: vendor identify: FM-1_6010000 for release 1.0 (FM-1_600 dev build); USB product "CTL-1 FM-1"; editor INFO: none (no F0 7D 46 4C handler); Universal Identity: none; BLE name FM-1; also ctl-usb-X.Y.fwsc build without BLE.

Frequently asked questions

Which MIDI CC controls the filter cutoff on the M-VAVE FM-1?

CC 74 (0–127), named /fm1_ctl/cutoff in SynthHub's map.

How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?

SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 18 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.

Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?

Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
