Try it in your browser

Play a virtual FM-1 with any of its community firmwares: M-VAVE FM-1.

How do you control it?

Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:

osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-skiff-1.4.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>

Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:

osc-bridge osc-send /fm1_skiff/mod_wheel 63

From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_skiff: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

Limitations

Skiff 1.4 by illuminus5 (GPL-3.0), a groovebox firmware for the FM-1. 6 tracks; MIDI IN modes only CH1-6 (default) and SEL; per-track channel MENU > MIDI > T1-T6 CHANNEL (CH1-16, default 1-6), no OMNI, no CH5-8. blocks (seq.c:76, 1262); Extra engine DRUM-X (14): CC74 -> TONE (E3), CC71 none (midi_control.c:225); MIDI learn 10 entries (not 16), any of the 6 tracks, 3-byte entries; Program Change: n-th shown preset only; no DRUM kit / FM6 bank-slot special cases (ui.c:1443); MIDI out keys with key velocity, no CC1 out; Editor: no FM6 voice-bank (74-75) nor learn (78-79) commands; 76-77 TRANSPORT/PROJ_NAME, 78-80 POOL/LIST/PERFORM, 39 COLORS; Identity FM-1_700 family instead of FM-1_9xx. Channels: CH1-6: each track hears its own channel (T1.T6 CHANNEL, default 1-6; two tracks on one channel: first wins); SEL: every channel plays selected track; unassigned channels ignored. Pitch bend: 14-bit; RPN0 range 0-24 st + 0-99 cents, default 2; drum tracks ignore. Aftertouch: channel aftertouch = mod-matrix source; poly AT ignored. Clock: source INT/USB/TRS (MENU CLOCK); F8 steps, FA/FB/FC honoured; no SPP; no clock out (midi_clock.c ~Felucca, plus launch-point rescale). MIDI out: USB only: panel keys as notes on the track channel with key velocity (seq.c:751); no CC1, no clock. NRPN: none (CC98/99 only cancel RPN). SysEx `F0 7D 46 4C`: Felucca editor protocol fork: 1-38 + 39 COLORS, 64-67, FM6 68-71, menu 72-73, 76-77 transport/project name, 78-80 pool/list/perform; no 74-75 FM6 bank, no 78-79 learn. Frequently asked questions

Which MIDI CC controls the filter cutoff on the M-VAVE FM-1?

CC 74 (0–127), named /fm1_skiff/engine_brightness_cutoff in SynthHub's map.

How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?

SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 21 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.

Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?

Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
