Try it in your browser

Play a virtual FM-1 with any of its community firmwares: M-VAVE FM-1.

How do you control it?

Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:

osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-amb-1.3.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>

Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:

osc-bridge osc-send /fm1_amb/all_notes_off 0

From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_amb: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

Limitations

AMB-1 1.3 by charlesvestal (MPL-2.0), a generative firmware for the FM-1. No CC, PC or bend handling at all: MIDI in = ch1 notes + clock only; Licence now MPL-2.0 (firmwares.json GPL-3.0 is pre-0.9). Channels: In: channel 1 note-ons only (exact status 0x90) toggle that pitch class in the scale. Out: pad ch1, bells ch2, bass ch3, pulse/drums ch10. Not configurable. Pitch bend: ignored. Aftertouch: ignored. Clock: In (USB/TRS): F8 tick, FA start, FB continue, FC stop drive the garden; screen shows EXT. Out: F8 + FA/FB/FC over USB when on its own tempo and MIDI out on. No SPP. MIDI out: USB only, on by default (Setup MIDI out): generated notes of pad/bells/bass/pulse on ch1/2/3/10 with velocities, clock, start/stop, CC123 on turning off. NRPN: none. SysEx `F0 00 32 45 00 00 00 40 7F F7`: M-VAVE vendor update protocol kept (felucca-bsp ota.c): identify reply = 27-byte product string (fm1.toml id_prefix + 00 dev / + XXYYZZ release); update, backup and screen mirror commands in the 00 59 framing. SysEx `F0 7D 53 52`: fm1-reader screen-reader protocol (SR): HELLO, page/knob announcements as text. SysEx `F0 7D 4C 47 F7`: development log readout (LG): crash record, rails, as ASCII frames. SysEx `F0 7D 4C 43`: remote panel control (LC): buttons, keys, encoders, master; ack F0 7D 4C 43 op F7. SysEx `F0 43`: absent: no DX7 bulk parser; other SysEx dropped. SysEx `F0 7E 7F 06 01`: absent: no Universal Identity reply. Identity: vendor identify: FM-1_7010300 for release 1.3 (FM-1_700 dev build); USB product "AMB-1 FM-1"; editor INFO: none (no F0 7D 46 4C handler); Universal Identity: none.

Frequently asked questions

How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?

SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 1 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.

Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?

Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
