How do you control it?¶
Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:
osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-coralflower-0.5.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>
Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:
From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1_coralflower: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

Notes, pitch bend and any CC are also available: /fm1_coralflower/note/on <note> <velocity>, /fm1_coralflower/cc/<number> <value>, /fm1_coralflower/pitchbend <0-16383>, /fm1_coralflower/program_change <n>.
Limitations¶
CoralFlower 0.5 by FicusFicusov (GPL-3.0), a instrument firmware for the FM-1. vs ChoralRoot: CC7 level, CC91/93/94 sends and Program Change are classified by crm_map but never acted on (cf_midi_in only handles CRM_FORWARD); vs ChoralRoot: no MIDI Keys channel; instead NOTES IN mode (default FM-1 keys) takes notes on any channel; Four MIDI out channels (chord 1, bass 2, layer 3, drums 10). Channels: Parts: CHORD on 'CHORD CH' (default 1), BASS on 'BASS CH' (default 2). NOTES IN (GLO > MIDI): FM-1 keys (default) = note on/off on ANY channel is folded by octaves into F3-G5 and presses that panel key (chord engine); Roots = note sent as a chord root; Direct = notes on chord/bass channels play the parts directly. CCs, bend, pressure always follow the chord/bass channels. Pitch bend: 14-bit on chord/bass channels, RPN 0 range 0-24 st + cents, default 2 st; FM6 uses its own patch bend range. Aftertouch: channel aftertouch = AT mod source (chord/bass channel). Clock: GLO > MIDI > CLOCK: Off (default) / In (follow F8 tempo 20-300 BPM, FA/FB restart beat 1, FC stop) / Out (F8 24 ppqn with FA/FC while the beat runs, needs MIDI OUT on, not while locked to clock in). MIDI out: USB, MIDI OUT On by default: chord notes on ch1, bass ch2, sequencer LAYER ch3, DRUMS ch10 (configurable), plus clock when CLOCK=Out. NRPN: none. SysEx `F0 7D 46 4C`: backup protocol only (cf_backup.c): 1 INFO ("CoralFlower \<version>", 0 engines, tags 42 01 03, 43 01 02), 65 LIST, 66 GET, 67 PUT, 72 RESTART; no editor. SysEx `F0 43`: DX7 bytes are assembled (usb.c fm6_sx_byte) and fm6_store.c is compiled, but no caller of fm6_service found outside the unused cr_ui.c: DX7 import likely inactive. SysEx `F0 00 32 45`: vendor update protocol, handshake answers FELUCCA_ID. Identity: vendor identify FM-1_930 (constant, build.py PRODUCT); INFO "CoralFlower 0.5" for release builds (source default "CoralFlower 0.1"); USB name "CoralFlower FM-1" (manufacturer "CoralFlower").
Frequently asked questions¶
How many parameters of the M-VAVE FM-1 can be controlled over MIDI?
SynthHub's map of the M-VAVE FM-1 lists 17 MIDI CC parameters, each with its number, range and a readable name; the full chart is on this page.
Can an AI agent like Claude control the M-VAVE FM-1?
Yes: SynthHub's hosted MCP server knows the M-VAVE FM-1's MIDI map, and its browser relay lets the agent send it parameter changes or load a sound, each sound change confirmed by you.
