How do you control it?

Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:

osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/m-vave/fm-1.vendor.fw-carnac-0.9.3.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>

Then send OSC to 127.0.0.1:7777, for example:

osc-bridge osc-send /fm1/mod_wheel 63

From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as fm1: ask “what can the M-VAVE FM-1 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.

Limitations

Carnac OS 0.9.3 by OrbVorgis (GPL-3.0), a instrument firmware for the FM-1. Source SYNTH_VERSION set at build (--release); default 'DEV'; Manual lists Program Change and full CC map as 'in the works', yet the source already handles Program Change. Channels: Two layers, each on its own channel: layer 1 ch1, layer 2 ch2 (GLOBAL MIDI CH LAYER1/LAYER2); SINGLE mode uses layer 1's channel, DUAL/SPLIT route per layer. Messages on other channels ignored. USB and TRS in. Pitch bend: MSB only (-64.+63), range GLOBAL BEND RANGE 0-24 st, default 2 (midi_io.c:59, synth_voice.c:512). Aftertouch: channel pressure -> mod source (midi_io.c:58). Clock: in USB+TRS: F8/FA/FB/FC with CLOCK SOURCE = MIDI (midi_clock.c:135-148); no SPP. Out USB only when CLOCK OUT = USB and clock internal: F8 24 ppqn, FA/FC with sequencer/arp transport (synth_main_fm1.c:190-215). MIDI out: USB: clock/start/stop only; MAQ sequencer and arp send notes/CC/PC to the internal synth only, not out. NRPN: none (no RPN either: bend range set on GLOBAL page only). CCs without a fixed number: custom CC1 (CC number set in GLOBAL (0 = unassigned, default); value is a mod source); custom CC2 (as CUSTOM CC1). SysEx `F0 7D 46 4C`: Felucca/X0X editor frame: INFO (reply 'CARNAC OS \<ver>'), PING 25, wavetable store cmds, PCM sample-slot cmds, 44 PERF TEST, 46 STATS, 47 DEBUG. SysEx `F0 00 59 (pack7)`: M-UPGRADE vendor update protocol (F0 pack7(00 59 cmd .) F7; cmd 0x11 handshake answers package identity; F0 22 24 35 7F F7 upgrade; F0 22 24 35 7D F7 UBOOT) (X0X platform). SysEx `F0 43`: no raw DX7 F0 43 parser. Identity: vendor identify from X0X build (b.PRODUCT, must match FM-1_9\d+, e.g. FM-1_900: make_site.py:72); editor INFO 'CARNAC OS \<ver>'; USB audio name 'X0X FM-1' (manual).
