Use it
Find the MIDI ports, then start the bridge with this driver:
osc-bridge detect # prints the ready-to-run line for what is plugged in
osc-bridge run --device devices/yamaha/dx7.vendor.fw-mtg-8x-exp-2.22.json --out-port <N> --in-port <M>
From Claude or any MCP client, the osc-bridge mcp server exposes this driver as dx7: ask “what can the Yamaha DX7 do?” and it reads this map with list_routes. See the MCP guide.
Limitations
DX7_8x_Exp (built on Yamaha ROM 1.8) shares the DX7 MIDI: 256 patches in two groups, a Program Change selects within the current group; MIDI out channel, Local on/off, per-patch split zones on their own channels and Active Sensing (FE) on/off set on the unit; velocity offset. Sold as hardware by its maker; nothing is hosted here. Untested on hardware.
